A Keizer man has been in arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred at a car crash scene early Monday morning , according to officials.
Darnell Edward Harris, 26, was arrested by Salem Police following an investigation that revealed the victim of a crash at Southeast Liberty and Superior streets died of stab wounds.
Responding officers found Andrew Ramon, of Gervais, behind the wheel of a maroon colored 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer that had crashed into a tree at around 1:37 a.m. Monday.
An autopsy revealed Ramon died of stab wounds, not the car crash.
A Salem Police investigation determined Ramon was involved in an altercation with Harris the night before or early morning before the crash.
Harris approached the crash scene and stabbed Ramon while he was still in the vehicle, according to Salem Police. The investigation resulted in nearby street closures for more than eight hours.
Salem Police located and arrested Harris Wednesday afternoon. He was detained without incident.
Harris faces charges of murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of tampering with a witness.
Murder is a Measure 11 crime and carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 120 months in prison.
He is held in Marion County Corrections Facility. He is set to be arraigned today at 3 p.m. with Judge Channing Bennett.
