Boy, 16, tried to rob woman at knifepoint, police say

TUALATIN, Ore. – Police arrested a knife-wielding 16-year-old boy who they said tried to rob a woman in Tualatin on Sunday night.

The incident occurred on a walking path between Cabela’s and Heron’s Landing Apartments, located at 18540 SW Boones Ferry Road, at around 9 p.m.

A woman was walking toward the apartment complex when the boy, described as Hispanic, demanded her bags and threatened her with a knife, according to Tualatin police spokeswoman Jennifer Massey.

The boy ran away without the bags after he realized witnesses saw him.

The victim was not seriously hurt, but suffered minor scratches to her back, Massey said.

A Washington County K-9 team and police officers from Tigard helped track down the suspect. He faces charges of attempted robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.

Police took the boy to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center.
