Ramona Quimby statue vandalized with graffiti

PORTLAND, Ore. – Two iconic Portland statues were vandalized with swastikas and other graffiti.

A KGW viewer, named Melissa, found the vandalism to the Ramona Quimby and Henry Huggins statues Wednesday afternoon. The statues portray two featured characters from the children's books of author Beverly Cleary, who went to Grant High School in Portland.

Melissa said she visited Grant Park in Northeast Portland to take photos but left in tears instead.

She reported the vandalism to police.

A parks department spokesperson said the statues were also vandalized Tuesday, but that graffiti was already cleaned up.'

The Willamette Week reported the statues were also defaced in March.
