Beaverton youth basketball coach arrested for sex abuse

Youth basketball coach accused of sex abuse

BEAVERTON, Ore. – A Beaverton youth basketball coach has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing an underage girl, and detectives believe there may be more victims.

Laurence Metz, 34, was arrested on Oct. 6. He faces four counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

Metz coached basketball at Club Villa Sport in Beaverton. He also runs a company called Metz Basketball Academy and held classes at The Courts in Beaverton.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, detectives began investigating Metz for child sex abuse in December of 2016. Metz allegedly befriended a family he met through coaching at Club Villa Sport and sexually abused a teenage girl in the family home on multiple occasions.

Metz posted bail and was released the day of his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.

“Due to his extensive contact with youth over the years, detectives believe there may be additional victims,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Anyone with information about Metz is asked to call 503-846-2500.
