SALEM – A robber, armed with a small knife, crawled through the window of a Salem Dutch Brothers Coffee and took the cash register, police said.

Just after 9 p.m., the robber, wearing a bandanna on his face, broke in to the coffee stand at 525 Wallace Road NW and threatened one of the employees, said Lt. Jim Anglemier with Salem police.

After grabbing the cash register, the suspect ran and jumped the fence into the supply yard of a nearby machine shop, Anglemier said.

Witnesses followed the suspect and relayed information to police who showed up with a K-9 and found 24-year-old Juan Carlos Palacio hiding in the supply yard, Anglemier said.

Palacio was arrested and charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, coercion and attempted assault. No one was injured during the robbery.
