PORTLAND – A 13-year-old boy stabbed a man in apparent self defense who was attacking him on a MAX train in Southeast Portland Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers arrested 32-year-old Mitchell Scott Field (pictured), who was stabbed during an altercation with a 13-year-old boy, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
After speaking with witnesses and reviewing video from the MAX train near 9369 Southeast Holgate Boulevard, investigators determined Field initiated a physical confrontation with the 13-year-old whom he did not know, Simpson said.
Just after 3 p.m., Field punched and choked the teen before the teen pulled out a knife and stabbed him in apparent self defense, Simpson said.
Field was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on strangulation, interfering with public transportation, and offensive physical contact charges.
His attorney pleaded not guilty on his behalf in court Thursday.
