KEIZER, Ore. – Officers arrested a suspect in Keizer Sunday who reportedly held a man at gunpoint and forced him to cash a check in order to get money, police said.
Just after midnight, the victim reported a Hispanic man pointed a small handgun at him in the 800 block of Plymouth Drive Northeast and ordered him to give up his money, said Sgt. David LeDay with Keizer police.
"He pulls a .357 out of his pocket," the victim told KGW, "then he says, 'So what you got on you?'"
When the victim said he didn’t have any money, the suspect ordered him to cash his paycheck, LeDay said.
"He forced me to get my paycheck and he forced me into the car," the victim said. "I was trying to play it out in my head, how everything is going to go down."
He said the man forced him to cash his $400 paycheck at a nearby 7-Eleven, and then took only $100 from him. The suspect then gave the victim a ride home and drove away.
The victim said he was extremely confused by the whole episode. "Honestly, my thought was, 'What just happened? He took me home?"
Investigating officers found the vehicle involved in the robbery and traced it to apartment 22 at 760 Plymouth Drive Northeast.
After detaining and questioning several people at the apartment, detectives found the weapon used in the robbery and arrested Gustavo Balderas Jr.
Balderas was arrested and charged with robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, and warrants for sex assault and failing to register as a sex offender.
Anyone with additional information about the crime was asked to call Keizer police at (503) 856-3462.
