EUGENE, Ore. -- Some homes and businesses in Dexter, Ore., lost phone service Sunday after thieves stole several hundred feet of telephone cable containing copper wire from a line near Highway 58.
The Register-Guard newspaper reports that the thieves wore orange tops to apparently disguise themselves as members of a repair crew.
Lane County sheriff's Sgt. Steve French said 400 feet of telephone cable valued at approximately $5,000 was reportedly stolen.
A spokeswoman for CenturyLink said most customers had service restored by Monday.
