Police investigate shooting in NE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police’s Gang Enforcement Team is investigating three overnight shootings in Northeast Portland.

There are no known injuries and police do not know if they are related.

The first shooting occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Friday at Northeast Killingsworth Street and Columbia Parkway.

Multiple 911 callers reported people in two cars exchanging gunfire at the intersection before speeding away in opposite directions. A caller said one of the drivers crashed but continued to drive westbound on Killingsworth Street on flat tires.

A driver not involved in the shooting was hit in the intersection by one of the fleeing cars. That driver was taken to a Portland hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police.

Witnesses said the two cars involved in the shooting were a smaller red SUV and a black Nissan Altima. An abandoned Nissan Altima was found at Northeast 92nd Avenue and Alberta Street with heavy front-end damage and apparent bullet holes through the windshield and driver’s side window.

The second shooting was reported shortly before 1 a.m. at Northeast 18th Avenue and Alberta Street.

An Uber driver was taking driving northbound on 18th Avenue with a passenger when his car was hit by several rounds of gunfire. The driver and passenger were not hurt and were not believed to be the intended target, Simpson said.

The suspect was described as a black man in his mid-20s wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

The third shooting was reported shortly after 2 a.m. in the area of Northeast 102nd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard.

Witnesses said they heard gunfire and saw several vehicles driving out of the area.
