PORTLAND -- Pacific Power is warning customers in Oregon, Washington and California to be aware of scammers posing as customer service agents asking for money or personal information.
During the scam, customers are told they have not paid for their service and are in danger of being disconnected. In some cases, people are told they need to pay a special meter charge.
Pacific Power said in a press release that several fraudulent calls have been made to customers this month.
“These scammers are in no way associated with our company,” said Karen Gilmore, Pacific Power’s vice president of customer service.
Anyone who receives a fraudulent phone call is asked to report the incident to police and Pacific Power.
