Cleanup at PSU bookstore after weekend flood

PORTLAND, Ore – The Portland State University Bookstore experienced a flood, after a weekend of rain and wind. The bookstore is still open for students. Tuesday and Wednesday, it will be open 9:00am-5:00pm, as cleanup continues.

The main entrance is blocked with caution tape. Students will need to access the bookstore from an emergency exit on Mill St.

Inside, clothing and supplies have been pushed to the side, as large fans dry out the floor. Large sheets of plastic cover the back walls. Clerks help students find what they need.

Store Manager Cory Adamski tells KGW-TV in an e-mail “Our team members and supervisors are doing everything we can to minimize interruption to our students. We opened the store on schedule yesterday (Monday) offering clerk service for anything in the store.  We are committed to staying open throughout the recovery, even if it means hand fetching each item students need, whether it’s a pencil or a textbook.”

He goes on to say, “I am so grateful to have such a dedicated team here at the bookstore, they have been working so hard to keep our students happy through this. We were able to open up more areas of the store today to students, and will continue to do so as long as we are able.  Our incredible service teams at ServPro are working hard to get through clean up quickly and efficiently, and fully understand the need for us maintain service levels to students and other community customers."

"They are extremely helpful," said student Marshall Fletcher, as he left the store. "I saw the caution sign, I tripped out, I thought something had happened. A flood is not as bad, it could be worse."
