An Oregon State trooper who pulled over a man for violating the state's cell phone law, ended up arresting the man on drug charges.

Police said it happened around Noon on Monday when a trooper stopped the driver of a black Nissan Frontier for using a cell phone on Highway 26 near Kelso Road. The driver, 26-year-old Zachary Stocker, was allegedly showing signs of being under the influence and the trooper smelled the :overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the pickup," according to police.

The trooper determined Stockert' license had been suspended in Oregon and searched the truck finding two pounds of marijuana inside two backpacks and a jar. The marijuana is valued at $5,000, according to police.

Police said Stockert is being held at Clackamas County Jail on DUII charges as well as unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance as well as unlawful use of a mobile communication device.

Last wek, KGW reported on how the state's crackdown on cell phone by drivers is going.
