BEAVERTON -- It's a been a long road to recovery for the auto industry since the great recession, but this year could break records for sales.
It's been a very merry Christmas in Oregon for local car dealers and across the country. December is looking to be the biggest ever for new car sales. All indications are that 2013 will end strong for the auto industry, up 8 percent over last year.
August was the best month so far this year, but it's December that could be the record breaker. The forecast is that 1.5 million cars will be sold this month for a total of $34 billion.
“Everyone has sales records they're going after. Everybody wants bragging rights. Everyone wants great momentum going into 2014,” said Richard Lennard, General Manager of Beaverton Honda.
For consumers, the end of the month and year is a perfect storm to score a deal. Lennard said consumers are in the driver’s seat.
Dealerships are eager to clear the lots to make way for new rolling stock and buyers benefit. Many are offering more incentives from zero and low interest rates to thousands of dollars off to get you behind the wheel and on your way.
No doubt this will be a busy weekend for dealers, so it pays to do your online homework before you head to a dealer.
