PORTLAND -- A new computer virus is popping up in Portland and it's holding some people's information hostage.
KGW stopped by Portland Support Computer Repair Friday where they're seeing a spike in "ransom-ware attacks."
The problem starts when a cyber-criminal hacks into your computer and locks it up. Then you see a message saying your files have been kidnapped and you'll have to pay to get them back.
But that's not all.
“This virus or this infection morphs on a daily basis. Last week I could remove this quite easily. This week, it's completely changed,” said Grant Lansing with Portland Support Computer Repair.
Investigators believe the scam started in Russia but it's making its way around the world through infected e-mails.
