PORTLAND - With less than three months until Christmas, retailers are gearing up for what they hope will be a gift for them, increased sales.
Worksource Oregon is co-sponsoring three area holiday jobs fairs this month.
Mt. Hood Community College was the first October 2nd.
This year as the economy continues to look for a recovery, albeit slowly, economist predict a better year for holiday sales.
It means filling the gap for big and small companies.
Most think of big box retailers doing all the hiring. But, think the box this year. Fed Ex and UPS need help loading trucks to get those gifts delivered.
Timberline is hiring for all kind of positions including kitchen help. The one big perk is a season pass to the slopes.
Target will hire up to 92,000 people nationwide. The store in Gresham needs to cover a lot of departments.
"We're hiring for logistics, early morning stocking positions, cashiers, sales floor and general guest services" said Jayme Edous, Target Human Resources. "All kinds with complete different backgrounds and all kinds of experience that can come to target and find a position that works for them". she said.
You can apply online for most positions. Also remember, many employers use the holiday hiring as a kind of audition. If you work out well, you could end up getting a full-time job.
There are two other holiday job fairs in October:
Tuesday October 9th, The Streets Shopping Mall, Hillsboro. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, October 24th, Portland Community College, Cascade Campus. 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
