PRINEVILLE, Ore. -- A new Facebook facility in central Oregon is close to opening.

Construction crews have been working on the new data center in Prineville for the past year. The 307,000 square foot facility will bring dozens of high-paying jobs to the community.

“We're the blue collar guys of the tech industry and we're really proud of that. This is a factory. It's just a different kind of factory then you might be used to,” said Ken Patchett, Facebook Prineville Site Manager. “It's not a sawmill or a plywood mill but it's a factory nonetheless.”

Facebook got a 15-year tax break to build in Prineville.

In exchange, the company must create 35 jobs that pay $50,000 a year in salary and benefits.

The Palo Alto company will also put $110,000 each year into a community fund for the 'city and county' to spend as they see fit. Prineville will also collect fees from the power used at the Facebook facility.

The Prineville Facebook data center is expected to open this spring.
