PORTLAND – The City of Portland is kicking off special events to encourage people to shop downtown for the holidays.

Again this year, four new “pop-up shops” are open for holiday shoppers.

The city has again donated the space rent-free to chosen local designers and artists in vacant retail space.

It allows property owners to showcase their vacant space for future, permanent tenants Stores in downtown will have special events Sunday, December 2nd and 9th, with free parking at SmartPark garages if you enter between 12-2 p.m.

On Thursdays from 4-7 p.m., there will be holiday concerts and events in the Pioneer District.

The city also started a Pinterest contest page.

Pop-up shops:

• 902 SW Morrison: Wolf’s Apothecary

• 902 SW Morrison: Enchanted Alpaca

• 535 SW Sixth Avenue: Emit

• 614 SW Eleventh Avenue (Governor Hotel): Boys’ Fort

The city says partners include: Portland Business Alliance and the Clean & Safe District, Portland Development Commission, Downtown Retail Advocate, Downtown Marketing Initiative, the City of Portland, Vizwerks, BPM Associates, and the Governor Hotel.
