PORTLAND - Since 1969, Canopies Unlimited on Southeast 82nd Ave. in Portland has sold truck toppers to hundreds of satisfied customers.
When the business changed hands lat year, problems popped up. So many that the business closed its doors according to a note left on the door.
With those doors closing, KGW’s Unit 8 discovered dozens of unhappy customers who said the company owes them hundreds, even thousands of dollars.
“I’m out $1,150,” said Duane Bernard from Rainier.
“I gave her $600 down not Visa, cash right on the table,” said Warren Shifflette from Vancouver.
“$600 is what I’m out,”said John Schulz from Fairview.
All of these gentlemen said they gave their money up front to the daughter of the man who used to own the company, Paul Schunk.
While Tamra Schunk changed the name to Canopy Girl Unlimited LLC, it was still doing business as Canopies Unlimited LLC.
“We have 11 complaints on file and show the business is no longer in business," Better Business Bureau spokesperson Kyle Kavas, said.
But as of Friday afternoon, the company website was still up with nothing about closing it’s doors and appears to be still taking orders.
If you put money down with Canopies Unlimited you should file a formal complaint with the Oregon Attorney Generals office.
