MIAMI (AP) — A high-profile South Florida attorney under federal investigation for allegedly running a huge fraud scheme has been sued for $100 million by a group of investors.

The 147-page lawsuit was filed Friday in Broward County against attorney Scott Rothstein, a bank and several other people. The investors claim Rothstein offered huge profits on investments in legal settlements that were fake. One partnership claims it lost $45 million.

The FBI has estimated the fraud at more than $1 billion. Rothstein has not been charged with a crime but authorities have confiscated his yacht, luxury cars and other property and are seeking forfeiture of his real estate. Rothstein's former law firm has been dissolved.

Rothstein's attorney declined comment.
