LOS ANGELES (AP) — Billionaire Donald Bren has begun testifying in the child support case brought by his two adult children from a long-ago love affair who are seeking millions.

Bren said Thursday that he was shocked when Jennifer McKay Gold told him decades ago that she was pregnant with their first child, Christie. He says they never talked about marriage or having a family.

Twenty-two-year-old Christie Bren and 18-year-old David Bren are suing their father for $400,000 a month in child support retroactive to the time they were born. That comes to about $100 million.

The 78-year-old Irvine Co. real estate mogul testified that he suggested they create a legal agreement to provide for the children, adding he told Gold he would do his best to provide financial support.
