PORTLAND – A woman was raped in Northeast Portland’s Grant Park Tuesday night and police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the suspect.
Crime Stoppers is also now offering a $1000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information that could help investigators was urged to call detective Katie Manus at (503) 823-3774 or send her an email. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
The 22-year-old woman told police she was walking on Northeast 36th Avenue, near Grant High School, at about 7 p.m. when a man pulled up in a light-colored Chevy Tahoe or Blazer SUV, Simpson said.
A man got out of the vehicle, grabbed her, slammed her face into the side of the truck and dragged to the north end of Grant Park before sexually assaulting her, Simpson said.
"This is a great neighborhood," added neighbor Anne Lindberg. "I've never heard of anything like this."
The victim told investigators the suspect ran away and she returned home to call 911, Simpson said. She was treated at a Portland hospital for her injuries.
The suspect was described as a "light or tanned skin" man in his 20s, 5-foot-7, with large dark eyebrows and a thin scar from his upper lip to his cheek. He was wearing baggy blue jeans and a baseball cap.
"It's really scary," said Lindberg.
