ALBANY, Ore. -- A woman was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds in an Albany apartment early Tuesday morning, police said.

The woman's 8-year-old son called police at about 2 a.m. to say his mother was bleeding, according to Capt. Eric Carter of the Albany Police Department.

The boy stated that his mother was on the floor in the kitchen and that the back door was unlocked, according to a report in the Albany Democrat-Herald newspaper.

Responding officers found 36-year-old Angela Esther Stephenson dead in her apartment, in the 1600 block of Southeast 15th Avenue, Carter said.

Linn County search and rescue teams searched the back of the apartment complex Tuesday. Police said they were still searching for a suspect profile Tuesday afternoon.

"We simply don't know if it is domestic related or stranger based,” said Carter. “[There’s no evidence] at all to implicate the child though."

Anyone with information on Stephenson or the shooting was asked to call the Albany PD Detective Unit at 541-917-7686.
