SALEM – Wine lovers can now fill up their growlers at Oregon restaurants and grocery stores.
Gov. John Kitzhaber signed a bill Thursday that allows businesses to sell consumers up to two gallons of wine in the reusable containers.
Winemakers have supported the bill as another way to market the products of a growing Oregon business. Vintners also touted the growlers as being environmentally friendly, because they use less glass and cork.
Some wineries already distribute wine in kegs, which restaurants use to sell by the glass.
Fans of Oregon craft beer have long been using growlers at their local breweries to fill up.
Hard cider is also included in the new law.
