OREGON CITY, Ore. – Wendy Libke, the widow of Oregon City officer Robert Libke, gave birth to a baby girl Tuesday morning, Oregon City Police Chief James Band told KGW Thursday.

The baby, Ziva Libke, is the only child of Wendy and Robert. The 8-pound, 6-ounce girl is doing well and will leave the hospital with her mother Thursday or Friday.

On Nov. 4, Robert Libke responded to reports of an armed man at a house fire on Linn Avenue in Oregon City. When he arrived at the scene, 88-year-old Lawrence Cambra shot and killed Libke before turning the gun on himself. Wendy was several months pregnant at the time.

Libke was the first Oregon City officer to die in the line of duty since 1906. He had been sworn in only a few years earlier.

Libke’s tragic death brought area law enforcement officers and emergency responders together. Thousands turned out for a procession and celebration of life a mere weeks after his death.

A fund in Libke's name has been set up at the Clackamas Federal Credit Union. Donations can be made at any branch to the Officer Libke Fund.
