PORTLAND -- The contents of a 1984 time capsule were revealed at Pioneer Courthouse Square last month. Now Portlanders can help decide what's in the next time capsule.
Among the items chosen to represent Portland 30 years ago: an Oregonian newspaper, a selection of wines and several high school yearbooks.
But some items unearthed from that time capsule represented the era much more than they did the City of Roses, like the boombox, the Madonna cassette, the Nike high-tops and the Frankie Goes to Hollywood "Relax" T-shirt.
Some of the 1984 items will be on display at the Oregon Historical Society from June 27 through August 31, 2014.
Over the next year, Portlanders will get to propose which objects to best represent 2014. Selected items will be buried in the time capsule on April 6, 2015, and it will be opened 20 years later.
Suggestions will be accepted through December 31, 2014.
