PORTLAND -- A Vancouver man was arrested Sunday morning for smashing the window of a Portland rug store and destroying some of the inventory inside, police said.
A witness called 911 at about 5:15 a.m. to report that a man had broken into Kush Handmade Rugs, near NW 10th Avenue and NW Davis Street, according to Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Officers at the scene learned the man had broken out the front window and went inside to smash vases, trash the bathroom and destroy other merchandise, Simpson said.
Police found the suspect, 21-year-old Joshua Wayne Stamper of Vancouver, near NW 9th Avenue and NW Couch Street. He was jailed on charges of burglary and criminal mischief.
The damage was estimated at more than $5,000.
