SEATTLE -- A lightning strike near Lake Stevens, Wash., destroyed a large tree Friday morning around 9 a.m. and killed a bald eagle that happened to be sitting on one of its branches.
A KING 5 News photographer on the scene to shoot the aftermath said the eagle's carcass was discovered in the tree's debris.
According to the homeowner, the tree was planted in 1950 and reached about 125 feet in height. All that remains standing is a 20-foot-tall stump.
A juvenile bald eagle was seen flying around the debris, presumably the offspring of the eagle killed by the lightning.
