WARRENTON, Ore. -- The suspect in a bizarre Warrenton crime spree was arrested Tuesday after a low-speed chase down Highway 101 in a motorized shopping cart stolen from Home Depot, according to a newspaper report.

The Daily Astorian reported that a Subway employee called police just after 2:30 p.m. to say a woman had just stolen money from a tip jar and tried to use it to pay for a sandwich.

Police then received reports that the woman was involved in a theft at Fred Meyer and a disturbance at Rite-Aid, according to the article.

The suspect, 59-year-old Laurie Ruth Chester of Seaside, then reportedly went into Home Depot and rode around on a motorized shopping cart full of merchandise, eventually leaving the store and driving down Highway 101.

Police caught up to her and found she was also in possession of stolen items from a nearby PetCo store, the newspaper reported.

Chester was booked in to the Clatsop County Jail on several charges of theft and disorderly conduct.
