PORTLAND -- The Union Gospel Mission in Portland is gearing up to help financially struggling people with its Thanksgiving food box campaign.
On Saturday morning, volunteers gathered at the church to assemble 300 Thanksgiving food boxes filled with boxed stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, fruit, cranberry sauce and a host of other holiday staples. Most importantly, however, was a voucher for a turkey.
The Union Gospel Mission’s campaign was developed out of the need to reach people outside downtonw Portland, said Stacy Kean in a news release to KGW.
The Mission partnered with churches and nonprofits throughout the metro area to distribute the boxes to help feed families and individuals who cannot afford a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
