OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Police escorted a beaver to Abernathy Creek after it was spotted walking across a busy Oregon City street Thursday night, and part of the leisurely walk was captured on video.
Officers were called at about 11:30 p.m. to the report of a beaver walking across McLoughlin Boulevard, at 14th Street, headed away from the river, said Lt. Jim Band of the Oregon City Police Department.
"The beaver had made it through traffic, appeared to be lost and was walking towards headlights every time it saw them," Band said.
Officers had tried to use a pole and noose to capture the beaver, but quickly figured out it was easier just to walk alongside it all the way to Abernathy Creek. The walk took about 40 minutes.
"Once near the creek, the beaver scuttled down the bank, into the water and swam off," Band said.
