PORTLAND – A suspect was arrested Friday morning after he shot another man in the leg near Southeast 84nd Avenue and Southeast Woodstock Boulevard, police said.
At 11:15 a.m., police and paramedics swarmed to the area. The suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Thomas Richard Robertson (pictured), reportedly ran away to a nearby home on Southeast 89th Avenue after shooting the victim. He was quickly located and taken into custody without incident.
Surveillance video shows the two men were fighting in the street. Robertson is then seen pulling out a handgun and shooting the victim, later identified as 27-year-old Joseph Townsend. Townsend then ran into a nearby autobody shop on Southeast 83rd Avenue.
Townsend was lucky because Oregon National Guard medic Nat Novotny happened to be working at the shop and treated him.
"It was in and out. The guy was pretty lucky though. It was actually close to a major artery," Novotny said.
Townsend was rushed to the hospital where he was expected to recover.
