VANCOUVER -- A 3-year-old boy reported missing in Vancouver at about 3 a.m. Friday was found safe hours later, in part due to a KGW reporter's interview with a neighbor.
The boy had apparently been spotted and taken in by a man in a nearby home. That man's son was being interviewed by KGW and said that when he got home from work his dad mentioned that a child was in the house.
The reporter, Ashley Korslien, went with the interviewee to speak with a police officer about it. Officers then found the boy in the home.
The boy's mother thanked police, fire fighters and all who helped find her son. She has no idea why he left the home. She said Ajay is doing well.
Relatives caring for the boy first reported he was missing from his home in the 5400 block of Northeast 34th Street.
They said they had checked on him at about 1 a.m., then again at 3 a.m. They realized he had vanished in that time span. The door to the home was unlocked.
He was only wearing pajamas and went without shoes or a coat into rainy, cold conditions.
Police asked neighbors to the check their properties. Nearby residents were also contacted via a 911 messaging system.
