VANCOUVER, WA - Police in Vancouver are looking for the suspect in a violent home invasion robbery and attempted kidnapping that happened on Tuesday.

It happened around 8:20 Tuesday morning

"Something like this happens and you're not prepared for it," said neighbor Bruce Brown.  "We certainly weren't."

Detectives said the victim was at home in the 15300 block of SE Rivershore Drive when she heard someone enter from the garage just after 8 a.m.  Then, a man armed with a gun forced her into her home office at gunpoint.

"This is the first time something like this has ever happened down here," added Brown.

Investigators said the victim tricked the suspect and was able to briefly escape to the driveway, only to be grabbed and forced back inside.

"If it was my wife, and I wasn't home, it would scare you pretty good," said Brown.

A police spokesperson said the woman and the suspect struggled before the woman managed to escape a second time and run to a neighbor's house.

The suspect was described as a white man, approximately 40 years old, with light brown hair and a medium build.  He was wearing blue jeans with newer white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information that may help investigators was urged to call authorities.
