PORTLAND -- The man and woman who were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide Friday evening in Southeast Portland have been identified as a married couple, and the woman had recently filed for divorce.
On Friday afternoon, Portland police rushed to the site of a reported shooting at an apartment on Southeast 141st Avenue and Southeast Division Street.
Officers tried to enter the home and rescue a woman they believed was injured, but retreated once they heard gunshots, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police.

A crisis negotiator tried to calm the situation with no response. When officers were finally able to go inside, they found Maria Soumphonpackdy, 42, and Jack Soumphonpackdy, 60, dead.
According to Simpson, Jack shot Maria multiple times with a handgun before turning the gun on himself.
"Detectives learned that Maria recently filed for divorce from Jack, which may have led to the shooting," Simpson said.
Domestic violence is one of the most common reasons for violent crime, Simpson said. Anyone who is experiencing domestic violence or concerned about another person who may be can call the Portland Women's Crisis Line at 1-888-235-5333.
