SANDY, Ore. – A tractor driver was critically injured after getting hit by an SUV on Highway 26 two miles east of Sandy Friday.

Just after 4 p.m., 32-year-old Christopher Huntley was driving his Buick Enclave westbound on the highway when the car in front of him swerved into the left lane, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

That’s when Huntley noticed a slow-moving tractor in front of him. He tried to steer around it, but crashed into it, forcing it off the highway.

Matthew Grassl, 25, of Sandy was pinned underneath the wrecked tractor.

Crews unpinned Grassl and flew him by helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center where he was in critical condition.

Huntley was not injured.

The highway was closed for several hours Friday. Investigators were continuing to look into the crash. Anyone with information was asked to call police at 503-731-3020.
