PORTLAND – Drivers should expect slick Cascade passes after a foot of snow fell at Timberline Lodge Saturday night.

Signs leading up to Mt. Hood warn drivers to carry chains or traction tires because of slick driving conditions.

The snow level dipped below Saturday’s 4,000 feet, which gave a healthy covering to the mountain and lodge during the weekend. Drivers in the Cascades should expect more snow and icy roads said KGW meteorologist Rod Hill.

“It started snowing real hard. It was awesome,” said Taylor Hanson at Summit Chevron.

Lielanie Villanueva said that it was raining in Welches, Ore., but after driving 20 minutes up the pass, there was snow everywhere.

The Portland metro area may see small hail and spotty downpours but also some dry periods through Wednesday.

7 day forecast

KGW meteorologist Jim Donovan said there may be a chance to get to some outdoor plans during some of the sun breaks.
