PORTLAND – Although star forward Alex Morgan was back on the field for the Thorns Saturday, she couldn’t help the team beat back the Western New York Flash.

The Flash won 5 – 0 at Providence Park.

The Flash came out early with a goal in the 11th minute. Seventeen minutes later, Thorns goalkeeper Nadine Angerer got a red card for taking down a player in the box, Timbers.com reports.

Portland had to play with just 10 players for the rest of the match. Alex Morgan played hard and had seven shots on goal, but couldn’t score.

Western New York went on to score 4 more goals. They are now 4-5-2, the same as the Thorns.

Next up, the Thorns are set to play the Washington Spirit Sunday, June 15 at Providence Park.
