NEW YORK -- New York City mayoral candidate Bill Thompson has conceded the Democratic primary race to front-runner Bill de Blasio.
Thompson said at a news conference Monday that he was proud to support de Blasio as the Democratic nominee. De Blasio is the city's public advocate.
De Blasio was standing behind Thompson. He says he had the honor to work with Thompson for many years. He says there was "no man of greater integrity."
Thompson's concession avoids a possible primary runoff. De Blasio moves on to face Republican Joe Lhota in the general election in November.
