VANCOUVER -- Two teenagers desperately tried to save a man from drowning in the Columbia River but his body went under before they could save him.
The girls said they noticed the man struggling in the water just after 6 p.m. near the Red Lion at the Quay hotel along the waterfront in Vancouver.
They said at first, they thought he was joking, but when they realized he was in trouble, they tried to help.
“Me and her jumped in, but he was already going down under,” said Lindsee David.
Another teen called 9-1-1 and rescuers responded quickly, but the man could not be found.
Later in the evening, dive teams were called to recover the victim's body.
