WOODBURN – A 16-year-old was hit while riding his bike on Highway 99E after an SUV crossed the center line and collided with him Friday, police said.
Javier Luevano-Plascenchia, who is reportedly from Woodburn, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. when a Jeep Cherokee driven by 60-year-old Sherry Smead collided with the teenager who was on a BMX bike in a wide gravel area off the side of the highway near milepost 40, Hastings said.
Smead returned onto the highway and came back to the scene. She is cooperating with authorities who are still investigating. The teenager was not wearing a helmet.
