ALBANY – Wildland firefighter, Jesse Trader who died fighting a fire in southwestern Oregon, was honored Saturday at a public funeral service at West Albany High School.
Members of the community turned out for the 90-minute service that started at 10 a.m.
The service concluded with a 20-minute fire and police escorted processional to Willamette Memorial Park in Millersburg where a private graveside service was held.
Pastor Don Reeves led the service which included testimonies from Traders friends and relatives. Trader, 19, died Tuesday when the water truck he was driving rolled down an embankment near Grant’s Pass.
Trader graduated from West Albany High School in 2012. He earned a college baseball scholarship, but decided instead to become a firefighter.
His mother, Gigi Trader, said he had always dreamed of becoming a firefighter.
Agencies from all over the state, including a representative from the governor’s office, attended the somber service Saturday.
