TURNER, Ore. -- An 18-year-old girl who had just graduated from Cascade High School in Turner Wednesday is in critical condition after getting seriously hurt in a crash near the school Friday morning, police said.

Lindsey R. Magnusson, of Aumsville, was pulling out of the school parking lot just after 8 a.m. when her car was struck by a pickup truck, said spokesman Don Thomson of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Magnusson was taken to the Salem Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Thomson said. The driver of the pickup suffered injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Deputies said she had driven to the school to drop off her younger brother. Investigators believe the sun was in her eyes as she was leaving and she didn't see the pickup, Thomson said.

School remained open Friday and counselors were on hand to talk with students about the incident.

The Magnusson family released the following statement Friday afternoon:

We want to thank our family and friends for their outpouring of support for our daughter Lindsey after the wreck today that left her injured. We don’t know what the next few days will bring, but we appreciate everyone’s love and support. We know that Lindsey would want your thoughts and prayers.”
