AURORA, Ore. -- A 14-year-old Springfield boy died Friday from injuries he suffered in a crash on an Interstate 5 on-ramp last Saturday, police said.
Carlos Daniel Perez was among six people hurt when a minivan crashed into the back of a tanker truck on the Donald/Aurora ramp to I-5 northbound just before 10 a.m.
Perez was taken to Oregon Health & Science University where he remained in critical condition until he died Friday morning, said Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings. His father and sister were also taken to OHSU with serious injuries.
The driver of the minivan, 66-year-old Heron Mendez, and two other passengers were taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with injuries that weren't thought to be life-threatening.
"Conditions were foggy but the main cause of the crash is pending further investigation," Hastings said. No charges were filed.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
