VANCOUVER -- The two suspects in the deadly shooting of a Hazel Dell man were arraigned on murder charges Monday and KGW has learned that deputies also believe the suspects were involved in a recent burglary in Battle Ground.

Kirk Hernandez, 42, and Darrel "Chris" Fry, 33, both of Vancouver, are accused of killing Matthew Clark, 43, in Hazel Dell.

Clark was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside the home in the 9600 block of NE 25th Avenue and there was a bullet hole through the front window, according to Sgt. Fred Neiman with the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators have also linked Hernandez and Fry to a recent burglary in Battle Ground where several guns and a deputy's badge were stolen, Neiman said.  The victim in that burglary used to be a deputy in Nevada and is also the son of a former Clark County undersheriff.

A friend of Hernandez attended Monday's court hearing and told KGW he was a recovering meth addict who relapsed.

"I just feel bad for both sides of the family - for his family, for the victim's family - I just feel bad.  It's drugs that are taking the life out of a lot of people," Daniel Gentile said.

Bail was set at $1 million. Investigators said both suspects had unrelated warrants out for their arrests.
