PORTLAND – A suspected heroin dealer was arrested Wednesday in connection with two overdose deaths in Portland earlier this year.
One person died of a heroin overdose in January and the other on Monday. Investigators think Cory Rodarte sold them their fatal doses.
Rodarte already had an active warrant out for his arrest on other drug charges and on Wednesday police captured him at a Northeast Portland hotel.
Police said they also found Rodarte’s suspected drug supplier and a different dealer nearby, along Northeast 122nd Avenue. They said the alleged supplier was arrested with $4,000 cash and about $3,600 worth of heroin in his car.
If convicted, Rodarte could get life in prison. He talked to KGW Tuesday and said he knew the risks when he was dealing, but kept doing it anyway.
“You hope that doesn’t happen. You pray every day that that doesn’t,” he said.
Police estimate a person dies every three days in Portland from a heroin overdose. The majority of the users are teens and young adults, police said.
