PORTLAND – An unidentified suspect shot a man Thursday night in Northeast Portland’s Woodlawn neighborhood in an incident police are calling gang related.

It all started around 9:30 p.m. when neighbors reported hearing gunshots near Northeast Oneonta Street and Claremont Avenue, which is near Woodlawn Park.

Portland Police Bureau’s Gang Enforcement Team swarmed to the scene but didn’t find any victims or evidence of gunfire, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Police then staked out Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and waited to see if someone who was shot showed up. Sure enough, a car pulled up a short time later with a 25-year-old man suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, Simpson said.

Police also said the vehicle “showed evidence of gunfire.”

Police do not have a suspect in the case.

Anyone with information about gang or illegal gun crimes in Portland was urged to call police’s Gang Enforcement Team at 503-823-4106.
