PORTLAND – A man robbed a pharmacy at gunpoint in Northeast Portland Saturday afternoon, police said.
Shortly before 5 p.m., 27-year-old Tyler Ljubich demanded Oxycontin and money from Paulson’s Pharmacy at 4246 N.E. Sandy Boulevard with a gun that turned out to be an Airsoft replica firearm, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
Ljubich also got the wallets from several customers before he took off running into the parking lot of a nearby Grocery Outlet, Simpson said.
Police were alerted when a caller told dispatchers her friend sent her a text message saying they were being robbed.
An arriving officer tried to cut Ljubich off with his patrol car and knocked him down. Ljubich got up and kept running, Simpson said.
A customer from the Grocery Outlet then tackled Ljubich and held him for police. When Ljubich was hit by the car the fake gun fell out of his pocket, Simpson said.
Officers hit Ljubich with a Taser because police said he continued to struggle with them.
Once police had him in handcuffs, he tried to run away again before he was put into a patrol car and booked in jail on robbery and escape charges.
