PORTLAND -- A man suspected of assaulting a Portland cab driver and stealing his taxi last June has been arrested, police said.
Ronald William Heasley turned himself in to police Tuesday after Crime Stoppers released his photo to the public, said Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.
Heasley is accused of assaulting the driver while his cab was stopped at a traffic light on Southwest Naito Parkway at Southwest Morrison Street on June 4.
The driver said when he got out to defend himself, Heasley jumped in the cab and drove away. Three passengers got out of the back seat just before the cab pulled away.
The cab was later found abandoned in Vancouver.
Heasley was booked in to the Multnomah County Jail Tuesday on charges of robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
