PORTLAND – The man arrested for the Oct. 11 shooting that killed a teen and injured another man at the Holgate MAX station in Portland made his first appearance in court Friday afternoon.
Silvano Velasquez, 18, was arrested Thursday on murder, attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree assault charges.
The family of 15-year-old Abukar Madey, who was found on the stairs leading to the MAX platform at Southeast 92nd and Holgate with a gunshot wound to the head, showed up in court to see Velasquez.
His parents have had a hard time making sense of the tragedy that took their son, Madey’s cousin told KGW.
“It’s just hard to deal with. He was only 15, and me and his sister are good friends. She’s been crying. She hasn’t been eating or drinking, very sad, they clean his room. (There’s) nothing left in his room,” she said.
Alejandro Ramirez-Navarro, 22, was also found shot several times and taken to the hospital. He survived.
Last Friday, police released surveillance images of two people of interest in the fatal shooting. The man pictured in the images was Velasquez, police said.
