HILLSBORO, Ore. – A suspect in Hillsboro crashed a stolen van while fleeing from officers Sunday morning, deputies said.
Around 7 a.m., deputies spotted a 1999 Ford van drive partially into a ditch on Northeast 28th Avenue and Northeast Cornell Road in Hillsboro. A man jumped out of the van before it sped off down the road, said Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy tried to pull the van over but it would not stop. The deputy then learned the van was stolen while following it eastbound on Southeast Tualatin Valley Highway, Ray said.
On three occasions the driver intentionally backed directly toward officers and their vehicles. As the van approached Southeast 40th Avenue, it stopped, backed up and drove into a ditch causing it to roll on its side, Ray said.
Deputies arrested the driver, 24-year-old Baldemar Daniels-Torres of Hillsboro. He was booked in the Washington County Jail on unauthorized use of a vehicle, attempt to elude, unlawful use of a weapon (van), and felony assault.
